On movie posters, especially the large 27 x 40 posters, I take 2 poster tubes of the same length, split one in half longways and slide it over the other poster tube. I secure it by taping them together so they're snug together. It makes for a real strong tube. If you hold the tube in your hand, it is very very difficult to crush. I have yet to have any damages or have any complaints.
