1974 RUTH DICKER NUT TREE LANDSCAPE POSTER PRINT

This is an early Nut Tree 1974 poster print featuring the exquisite art of Ruth Dicker. I believe the medium used in this print was oil. As was part of the Nut Tree collection, this print along with all the Nut Tree posters and prints are no longer available anywhere.

About The Nut Tree in Vacaville

The Nut Tree, a huge icon today in name only, was a famous restaurant, memorabilia shopping center, and airport in Vacaville, California. The shopping center closed in January, 1996. It originally had its origin as early as 1860, and gave weary travelers welcome shade to those going back and forth to the hot Sacramento Valley. Now closed and with only the airport still in operation, these Nut Tree photo collections are very rare. At the bottom of each print, they designated each piece as part of the Nut Tree Collection.

About Ruth Dicker

“Ruth Doerschuk Dicker (March 9, 1919 - December 2, 2004) was a California painter of landscapes.

Dicker was born in Niagara Falls, New York. She went to Salem Academy and then attended the College of William and Mary where she received a degree in painting and art history. She moved to New York City where she studied at the Art Students League, worked as an illustrator and fashion model, and met her husband. They soon moved to Palo Alto, California where they raised two sons. In 1970, Dicker moved to Santa Rosa, California where she would find her most recognizable style in depicting the landscapes of Sonoma County.

Throughout her career, her work was shown in galleries, museums, corporate offices in New York City and in and around the San Francisco Bay area. She participated in one woman or group shows at the Legion of Honor, the Oakland Museum of California, Santa Clara University, and Stanford University. Her style includes vibrant acrylic colors, splatters of paint and strips of wood covered in rice-paper to give dimensionality and texture that leaps off the panel.

After her husband died in 1980, she enjoyed the most productive years of her career. In 1983, Dicker traveled with a group of California artists led by Earl Thollander to China. She enjoyed the art of the Southwest and often traveled to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Her most well-known paintings are likely the large paintings depicting the seasons in the dining room of The Nut Tree (now closed) in Vacaville, California and a 24 foot wide mural at the Yosemite Art Center. “ **
